The second volume includes French and Italian instruments from makers such as J.B. Vuillaume and Lorenzo Storioni, together with several significant English instruments and bows, which have been donated to the Ashmolean Museum. These include an 1627 violin by Edward Pamphilon, a 1740 viola by Peter Walmsley, a 1837 viola by Simon Andrew Forster and a Dodd violin bow.
