The 2012 Strad Calendar features a selection of fine violins, violas and cellos by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini (1711-1786), the great Cremonese violin maker who is widely considered to be third only to Antonio Stradivari and Giuseppe Guarneri ‘del Gesu’. The instruments illustrate the master's development as a luthier, and are drawn from his five key periods of production in Piacenza, Milan, Cremona, Parma and Turin.
