Eduardo Lalo (1823–92) was one of the most gifted French composers of his day. An accomplished violinist-violist, he was instrumental in creating (along with Saint-Saens and Franck) a significant body of French concertante and chamber music. This collection, recorded in June and July 1977, illustrates his most important work. One of the greatest violin virtuosos of the 20th century, Ruggiero Ricci's discography is unrivalled in its depth and scope, while his support of the innovative and difficult is unparalleled. His technique has proved remarkably durable and these recordings were made at the height of his powers.2 CDs, 116 minutes.
